Mexico City’s Friendliest Treehouse

An urban oasis — private and secure on the outside, warm and inviting on the inside. Vibrant colors adorn The Red Treehouse, a boutique hotel nestled in the charming La Condesa neighborhood.

Local area: A mix of romantic, colorful buildings blend European, Manhattan, and local styles, full of old and new, littered with coffee shops and sidewalk eateries. Amsterdam Avenue is a very special path to explore the neighborhood, just down the street and encased in canopied trees.

Hotel: Imagine you’re visiting a friend’s house who hosts afternoon happy hours and cooks daily breakfasts, with a side of churros. This friend also facilitates new friendships and arranges tours and restaurant bookings. The Red Tree House is that perfect host creating memorable experiences. Rooms vary from modern, large apartments with private kitchens to the smallest “treehouse” room with just enough space for a desk and bed overlooking the shady courtyard. Catch up on work in your room, or my preference, the patio to meet fellow travelers.

Food: Nearby, check out Don Juan tacos on the sidewalk or Café Toscano Aguascalientes with outdoor seating, finishing with churros at El Moro. Drinks at Gin Gin provide a fun scene, and around the corner, dinner at La Capital has a great menu and atmosphere. The hotel may be able to score a reservation at the more upscale Maximo Bistrot or Pujol. Roma's outdoor Panadería Rosetta for an afternoon pastry or dinner at Restaurante Rosetta are both great options, while the Mercadoroma offers a different, casual vibe.

Visit: Walking and shared car services are an easy way to visit the nearby Frida Kahlo Museum and Coyoacan Market (neighboring each other). Spend a few hours at the Anthropology Museum, and meander through La Condesa and Roma neighborhoods. Stroll Avenue Pdte. Masaryk for high-end shopping/people-watching. Further afield, The Red Treehouse can arrange tours outside the city to Teotihuacan Pyramids and Xochimilco.

KATIE'S MUSTS:

-Take advantage of the social opportunities built into the hotel’s inclusive breakfast and daily happy hours.

-Tour far and near: besides the immediate walking opportunities, jump on the Hop-on Hop-off bus to catch a glimpse of this massive city. Touristy? Yes, but there’s a lot of ground to cover!

-Markets can feel overwhelming, but they’re a fun way to sample local culture and flavors. Be sure to grab some spices and chiles for the flight back.
